Terms & Conditions
Website Use & Intellectual Property
- By accessing this website and/or booking driving lessons through Alfie’s Driving School (ADS), you agree to accept these terms and conditions in full.
- All content, imagery, and intellectual property on this website belong to ADS. You may not copy, use, or reproduce any information or media from this site for anything other than personal, non-commercial use.
- ADS takes reasonable care to ensure website accuracy but is not responsible for any typographical errors, inaccuracies, or omissions within the site, and accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from them.
Changes to Terms
- These terms and conditions may be updated or amended at any time. Any changes will become effective immediately upon being published on the website.
- Continued booking of driving lessons or use of the website after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
Driving Lessons & Instructor Status
- Alfie’s Driving School (ADS) operates as a franchise network. Your contract for driving lessons is exclusively between you and your assigned driving instructor (your “Instructor”), who acts as an independent, self-employed franchise operator.
- ADS acts solely as an agent introducing you to the Instructor. ADS is not a party to the driving tuition contract and accepts no legal or financial liability for any breach, contract dispute, act, or omission on the part of your Instructor.
Jurisdiction and Governing Law
- These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
- Any disputes arising in connection with these terms, the website, or the driving school services shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Charges & Payments
Price Changes & Special Offers
- ADS reserves the right to change driving lesson prices at any time.
- Special offers may be advertised from time to time. However, these are not available to any pupil who already has a practical driving test booked. Special offers may be withdrawn at any time and without notice.
- Introductory lessons are not available for Pass Plus, refresher driving lessons, or if you already have a practical driving test booked. Introductory pricing is unavailable for pupils with an existing driving test appointment.
Test Fees & Mock Tests
- A minimum charge applies for booking the instructor’s vehicle for practical tests, which includes a 1-hour driving lesson prior to the test. Please ask your instructor for current rate details.
- Should you require a mock test, an additional fee on top of your standard driving lesson fee will be incurred. Please ask your instructor for details.
Payment Methods & Advanced Payments
- You can pay for driving lessons in advance via bank transfer or cash only. Alternatively, payment may be made by cash only to your instructor at the start of your driving lesson.
- Sums paid in advance by you (or on your behalf) for future driving lessons will be paid to ADS, who will arrange payment to your instructor. In doing so, ADS acts solely as an agent for your instructor.
- ADS accepts no liability for any payments made directly to your instructor.
Gift Vouchers
- Gift vouchers are for the sole use of the individual named on the voucher. They are non-refundable, cannot be redeemed for cash, are non-transferable, and cannot be resold.
- All gift vouchers must be used within 6 months of the issue date.
Intensive Courses
- Intensive courses may be booked with a non-refundable deposit of £165. The remaining balance must be paid in full prior to, or at the commencement of, the first driving lesson.
Your Lessons
Arranging & Booking Lessons
- You and your Instructor are jointly responsible for agreeing on all matters relating to the timing, location, and duration of individual driving lessons.
- Where you arrange driving lessons through this website or by telephone with ADS, these booking services are provided solely as an agent for your Instructor.
- The value of driving lessons your Instructor will deliver to you is equal to the exact value of the monies received from you. Because your Instructor cannot predict when you will choose to redeem prepaid block lessons, they cannot guarantee immediate slot availability each time you request a booking.
Progress Cards & Sign-Offs
- Your appointment card acts as your official receipt and must be brought to every single driving lesson.
- Your driving instructor will maintain a corresponding progress/appointment card. It is strictly your responsibility, alongside your instructor, to ensure that these cards are signed for every driving lesson taken.
- Lesson fees cannot be transferred or credited (where applicable) if the card has not been signed by both you and your instructor.
Cancellations & Unavoidable Delays
- In the event that your lesson is cancelled by your instructor or by ADS, the lesson will be rearranged for a mutually convenient time. If rescheduling is genuinely not possible, you will be offered a refund for that specific lesson.
- While every endeavor is made to commence your driving lesson at the scheduled time and with your scheduled instructor, no responsibility can be accepted for circumstances beyond our control which may delay the start time or result in a change of instructor.
- If circumstances beyond our control delay the start time of your lesson, we will offer you the full remaining lesson time on the day. If that is not possible, a replacement driving lesson will be offered to you at another time. ADS and your instructor accept no liability for any consequential losses resulting from an unavoidable delay.
The Pupil
Pick-Up & Drop-Off Locations
- If you wish to be picked up or dropped off anywhere other than your standard home address, this request must be made to your instructor well in advance of the scheduled driving lesson start time.
Practical Driving Tests & Vehicle Withholding
- A practical driving test must not be booked without prior consultation with your instructor. Your instructor reserves the absolute right to withhold the use of their vehicle for the practical test if they do not believe you have reached a safe, test-standard level of driving.
- Driving tests are standardly expected to be taken at your local DVSA test centre. If you wish to book your test at a different test centre, you must ask your instructor first, and additional travel/time charges may apply.
Vehicle Liability & Insurance Excess
- You—and not the driving examiner—are fully responsible for the instructor’s/school’s vehicle while you are operating it during your practical driving test.
- In the unlikely event of a road traffic accident occurring while you are in control of the vehicle during a test, you will be held liable for paying any applicable insurance excess up to a maximum of £400.
Refunds & Packages
Cancellation Notice & Forfeiture
- You must give at least 48 hours’ notice directly to your Instructor if you wish to cancel or rearrange a booked driving lesson. Failure to do so will result in your Instructor charging you the full amount for that lesson.
- Prepaid driving lessons must be taken within 6 months of the date of your original payment. You will not be entitled to a refund or a lesson credit after this 6-month period expires.
- Prepaid driving lessons are strictly for the account holder and may not be sold, resold, or transferred to any other person.
Refund Calculations
- At any point during the 6-month validity period, if you decide you do not wish to take the remainder of your prepaid driving lessons, you are entitled to request a refund for the unused balance.
- If a refund is issued for a partially used block booking, any driving lessons you have already taken will be retroactively charged at our standard, full hourly rates (losing the promotional block discount). You will be refunded the remaining difference.
Intensive Courses
- No refunds will be issued where an intensive course is cancelled by the pupil after booking or before the course has been fully completed.
- All intensive course deposits are strictly non-refundable.
Limitation of Liability
Neither your Instructor nor ADS will be liable to you for any loss or damage caused where, and to the extent that:
- There is no breach of a legal duty owed to you by the relevant person or body.
- Such loss or damage is not a reasonably foreseeable result of any such breach.
- Any such loss or damage, or increase in the same, results from a breach, error, or omission made by you.
- Any such loss or damage results from circumstances, events, or matters outside of the reasonable control of the relevant person or body (including, but not limited to, severe weather, mechanical breakdown, or DVSA test cancellations).
- Under no circumstances shall ADS or your Instructor be liable for any financial losses relating to any business operated by you, including but not limited to loss of profit, lost wages, or business interruption.
- Nothing in these Terms and Conditions will affect, limit, or exclude any statutory rights you are legally entitled to as a consumer under UK law.
Data Protection & Privacy (UK GDPR)
- Personal data provided by you to ADS and/or your Instructor will be processed securely and in full compliance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Your personal data may be used to:
- Verify your identity and maintain contact with you.
- Administer your account, tracking schedules, and payments for services provided.
- Trace debtors, recover outstanding debt, prevent and detect fraud, or manage insurance policies.
- Your personal data will only be retained for as long as necessary to fulfill business and legal obligations, after which it will be securely destroyed. Your information will never be shared with unauthorized third parties, nor will it be transferred outside of the UK or the European Economic Area (EEA) without necessary legal safeguards.
Promotional Imagery & Media
- ADS may request your explicit consent to use your photograph or image for promotional and marketing purposes (such as celebrating a driving test pass on social media).
- Any photograph taken for these purposes remains the intellectual property of ADS. By giving your consent to have the photograph taken, you acknowledge the right of ADS to display your image in our digital marketing, website, or advertising campaigns.
