Our Automatic Driving Instructor in Collier Row
Karolina B. | Teaching since 2023
Fluent in: English | Lithuanian | Russian
Karolina joined the team at Alfie’s Driving School in February 2025 and officially earned her full qualification as a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) in February 2026. Prior to embarking on her career in driving tuition, she spent several years working as a courier—a demanding role that involved heavy physical labour. Making the shift into teaching has proven immensely rewarding, allowing her to enjoy full control over her schedule while doing what she loves most: meeting new people and empowering them to become safe, confident drivers.
Her professional instruction was provided by a seasoned, ORDIT-registered trainer with more than three decades of experience in the industry, affiliated directly with Alfie’s Driving School. Thanks to this top-tier training and exceptional ongoing mentorship, Karolina delivers patient, highly structured, and supportive tuition tailored to each learner’s needs.
As one of our dedicated automatic driving instructors, Karolina is also exceptionally multilingual. In addition to delivering lessons in fluent English, she offers expert tuition in both Lithuanian and Russian. Being able to communicate key driving principles in a student’s native language helps alleviate nerves, clear up complex concepts, and build trust from the very first lesson.
In the car, Karolina’s approach is meticulous. She covers the full DVSA curriculum thoroughly, helping pupils master tricky local road layouts with ease, including navigating the double mini roundabouts connecting Collier Row Road, Hog Hill Road, and Lodge Lane, as well as driving key stretches along Mawney Road and Redriff Road. A key element of her teaching involves realistic mock tests to give pupils an authentic feel for exam conditions, which is a major reason behind her remarkable first-time pass rate and consistently strong student results.

Passed 1st time with 5 minor faults
Great people, very helpful. Recommend for a pass!

Passed 1st time with 2 minor faults
I passed my driving test with the help of Alfie’s Driving School and my instructor Karolina. She was so supportive and patient with me and truly determined to help me become a confident and competent driver. Even when I doubted myself, she still believed in me and held my hand every step of the way. A big thank you to the school and my instructor, as I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without you!
Would 100% recommend Alfie’s Driving School. I had Karolina as my instructor. I had 5 lessons with her just to help before my test as I was already a confident driver. I passed last weekend first time in Brentwood (an area I wasn’t familiar driving in) with only 2 minors! Thank you so much!!!

Real encouragement the entire time. Helped me prep for the test and were flexible in accommodating hours around my irregular shifts.
Lovely experience, would recommend!

Collier Row Lane: The Automatic Learner’s Hotspot
Collier Row Lane links the busy Collier Row roundabout with the North Street and Havering Road crossroads, packing a zebra crossing, two pelican crossings and a string of residential turnings into one short stretch. In an automatic you can give the road your full attention, so our lessons focus on scanning early, managing your speed smoothly and reading every crossing and junction well before you reach it.
Driving Hotspot: Navigating Collier Row Lane
Collier Row Lane is a key connecting route through Romford, running from the main central roundabout junction—where Clockhouse Lane, Chase Cross Road, and Collier Row Road meet—all the way to its eastern end at the major crossroads with North Street and Havering Road. For learner drivers, mastering this stretch requires sharp scanning skills, solid speed control, and heightened hazard perception due to the steady mix of pedestrian crossings, residential turnings, and busy intersections along the way.
Zebra & Pelican Crossings Along Collier Row Lane
As you travel along Collier Row Lane, you will encounter multiple pedestrian-controlled crossings that demand careful anticipation.
Heading away from the main Collier Row roundabout, there is a zebra crossing equipped with Belisha beacons. Further along towards North Street, you will meet two signal-controlled pelican crossings. Approaching drivers must constantly monitor the signal heads, stay aware of pedestrians waiting on the footpaths, and check their mirrors well in advance when preparing to slow down.
Junctions at Each End: The Roundabout & North Street Crossroads
In addition to pedestrian hazards, Collier Row Lane features key junction layouts that test your positioning and observation. While most turnings off the lane lead into quiet residential side streets via standard T-junctions, the road connects into major junction hubs at either end—starting at the main central roundabout and finishing at the North Street / Havering Road crossroads.
Keeping your speed controlled in second gear when approaching these major junctions gives you plenty of time to assess traffic, give way correctly, and navigate through smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common queries about beginning your driving journey in Essex.
Where is the best place to start learning to drive as a beginner?
The quiet residential network around Orchard Road, Cross Road, Elm Road, Lynton Avenue, and Victory Way offers a brilliant environment for novice drivers to build confidence.
These low-traffic streets provide a stress-free setting to practise turning left and right at various T-junctions and navigating open crossroads safely. For pupils learning in an automatic car, these wider residential stretches give you the ideal opportunity to focus entirely on observation, steering control, and hazard anticipation without worrying about manual gear changes or stalling.
How quickly can I start my automatic lessons?
We frequently have immediate starts available! However, because slots fill up fast and vary by area, availability depends on your local instructor’s current schedule.
If your local instructor has an opening, you could be on the road within days. Check your postcode now to secure the next available slot.
Where are the best quiet spots nearby to practise manoeuvres?
The car park area off Lodge Lane near the Forest Row Play Area provides a fantastic, low-pressure location to master your parking skills.
Because it is tucked away from heavy traffic, it offers plenty of space and peace to practise both forward and reverse bay parking safely. This quiet spot is particularly useful for learners taking automatic driving lessons, allowing you to focus entirely on car positioning, steering reference points, and slow-speed throttle control without the added stress of surrounding traffic.
If I pass my test in an automatic car, can I drive a manual later?
Passing your automatic test gives you a full UK licence to drive any automatic vehicle.
If you decide you want to drive a manual car in the future, you would just need to take a manual driving test—you won’t have to retake your theory test.
How do I build confidence during my driving lessons?
Starting out on quiet residential streets like Lowshoe Lane and Hood Walk provides the ideal, low-pressure environment for absolute beginners to get comfortable with vehicle controls.
Once you feel ready to progress, you can use these quieter pockets as a stepping stone to build your confidence by merging onto slightly busier routes such as Collier Row Road or White Hart Lane. Because the surrounding residential network loops right back around, if you ever feel a little overwhelmed or unnerved by the busier traffic, you can simply slip straight back into the quiet side roads to regain your composure at your own pace.
Can you help me if I've already failed a test with another school?
We help students switch over to us all the time.
Your instructor will assess your current driving standard, help you fix any bad habits or specific weak spots that caused the previous fail, and give you the mock test practice you need to pass with confidence on your next attempt.
