Hear from Mani

What do you love about being a driving instructor?

What I love most about being a driving instructor is meeting new people and finding ways to teach each of my pupils in a way that is unique to them. Every learner is different, and I take the time to understand their strengths, challenges, and learning styles. Whether it’s building confidence, mastering a tricky manoeuvre, or overcoming nerves, I tailor my approach to suit each individual.

Do you teach manual or automatic?

Manual.

When a new pupil starts out, what advice would you give them?

Try and be relaxed and enjoy the process of learning, it’s definitely fun learning to drive. It’s a skill that opens up so many opportunities, and the journey should be just as exciting as the destination! It’s completely normal to feel nervous at times, but embracing the experience with a positive mindset makes a huge difference.

What is the single biggest tip you would give someone on the day of their driving test?

Just remember, your instructor wouldn’t let you take control of the car if they didn’t believe in your ability to drive safely and pass your test. Every lesson you’ve had has been preparing you for this moment, and if your instructor has confidence in you, then you should have confidence in yourself too!

Looking back at your time of being a driving instructor, what would you say is the one moment that stands out above all others?

There have been many standout moments in my time as a driving instructor, but the ones that really stick with me are when passing the test is absolutely crucial for a pupil’s future—especially when it’s the difference between securing a job or missing out on an opportunity. I’ve had a few pupils who were right on the line, with their theory test about to expire, and they managed to pass just in time, allowing them to take that next step in their career.
